Week Review Feb 27-March 4, 2012

Its been a crazy week at work. Major switcha roos happening which has me my panties all in a bunch. Moving offices, moving rooms, just major mental blah this week.

Im happy to report that my training has been ok this week. I have been pretty consistent which is one of my goals this year. Although this hasn't been a porblem. Only on Wednesdays after working until 9 at work to get up and workout!

Nutrition..eh, still trying there. I swear ever since my Ironman I have been really taking a back burner with this and it is time I straighten up and eat the way I used to.  I am definately going to get on that starting this week. I put an myfitnesspal on my phone. I am documenting everything that goes into this mouth! I like the program. It actually breaks it down to micro and macronutrients too! I also get my weight on there and have a goal in mind for that. We will see if I can get down to that weight before race season really ramps up.

I signed up for our popular local Shamrock run 4 miler being held this coming weekend. Im all ready for it. Ill post pics of the outfit that I will be running in soon. Hopefully Ill fly by with my new hair!!!

I also have been really taking care of my foot the last week so my mileage isn't where I wanted it to be. I also have a nagging hammy issue...Really?!!! I need to see a sports PT.

Here are the totals:

Swim- 4700 yds- 1:50:00
Bike- 4:10:00  - 32.82miles plus trainer rides, spinning rides
Run- 1:45:00 - 11.42 miles
Strength- 1:30:00

Total time: 9:15:00

Happy Training!! So glad I am not training for a full this year!! WOOT!

Week In Review And Mountain goat too!

As I sit down and type this I have a lot of thoughts running through my mind about this week. Some things I did really well and others not so much. I had some ups and downs this week as well but am getting past all that and seeing the brighter side of things!

Here are some things I did well.
1. Ate well
2. kept in my heart rate Zones
3. Was kind to my honey (this counts you know!! :P )
4. Had some really nice rides and runs

What I didn't do so well
1. ran 30 min in Vibrams on Wednesday...My legs are still feeling it
2. I didn't listen to my coach to take a rest day yesterday and went to the local bike shop for a power test.
3. Hydrate myself.

eh, not too bad I guess!

I only had 4 hours of training as it was rest week. I had 2 serious rest days on the schedule and blew one of them. Coach was not happy. I think if she could've reach through the phone and slap me she would have!

Today was the 10 mile Mountain Goat Run. I was excited yet nervous at the same time as my calves were tight for 4 DAYS! I did well with rolling them, stretching, Icing, Motrin, Whatever I needed to do to pull through for today.

I ate my planned pre race Nutrition Coach gave me:
2 hours before race- 1 scoop Whey protein, 1 banana, 2 c unsweetened applesauce blended together (was very thick!!) and 24 oz EFS fluid
1 hour befor race- 1/2 Powerbar
20 min before race- 1 Powerbar Gel + 8 oz water (which I think I had about 12!)

I was jittery at the starting line and I knew I didn't want to get caught up in the hype so I seated myself in the middle of the pack to hold myself back the first Mile. 9 min mile first mile- CHECK!

After this I proceeded to get up the hills and was enjoying the run for the first time. Got to mile 5 and just lost it. The temps got higher, Then Colvin came and after Colvin Street I just didn't have it in me to push any longer. My calves were tight. I could feel them cramping up. Did I take in enough on the run? Every stop I took a gulp of PowerBar Perform, mile 4 I took gel. I was wondering if they mixed the Powerbar Perform right as it tasted watered down and not salty like it usually tastes.

I held onto my hopes of coming in 1:30:00 or better until mile 9 came and I looked and I was at 1:26:00. I knew I couldn't make up that time in 1 mile so I aimed to finish strong...

1:34:16 was my ending time!!!

I was disappointed at first as I had been doing the training runs in less time. But I knew I messed it up with what I did the days before the race. I look it as a lesson learned.

I went back to look at Past times and this is what I found:
2010- 1:49:11
2009- 1:44:07
2008- 1:36:19
2007= 1:36:48
2006- 1:43:05

Still a PR baby!!
I suffered some sunburned lips and a bloody toe today as well. The funny thing Is I didn't feel it until I got home!

Me and M! My best running partner!

A very salty Sweater! Pass the Salt!

Showing my shirt off AfTER the race!! :)

Last week Recap.

Last week was a difficult training week. I started out the week feeling fatigued. Not really wanting to do my workouts. By the end of the week I was taking off half day at work and sleeping my afternoon away.

I had some really good training days and others not so good. I heald it together for as long as I could.

This past weekend I had a great treadmill run 10.2 miles in 1:30! I wanted to see if I could do it and its amazing what happens when you aren't focused on your Garmin the whole time! I went by how I felt and If I could push it even further. Its amazing what mind games you can play with yourself when it comes down to it

Easter Sunday my mom was gracious enough to watch the little one as the man and I went for a bike ride around Owasco Lake in Auburn NY. It started out the perfect ride, then the rain started, but it felt good. Nothing I couldn't handle. Then there was some steep hills. I never knew Moravia was so hilly! We went up this one road that looked like it was a wall. I got half way up it and couldn't push any further. I got off my bike, GOT off it! I haven't done that in 3 years!! I have always tried to make it up a hill. I mentally was drained. I told the man that I couldn't do it, I just didn't have it in me. He looks at me and says, lets switch back tires. I have some smaller gearing on mine. So fine we switched back tires, got through all the rest of the nasty hills no problem. I looked at him and said see, I need smaller gearing. Come to find out, I actually had harder gearing on his cassette than mine. See how the mind works here?? I gave up. I gave up knowing what gearing I had on my bike and not having a triple like I do on my road bike up the hills. I discussed with the man too that when I tell him to just go ride, I am not mad at him, but need my time to process what Im doing, dig deep and get myself under control. I want to ride with him but he needs to realize I need my space just a little when we are out on that road!!

Hence the Program I went to Last night. Mental skills training for the athlete by a great coach in the area. She went through it all, how we feel, how to get us thinking positive, feel confident, etc, etc. This is the 4th thing in a triathlon. It can make or break you. And sometimes it breaks me.

Lastly, THis week is rest week. I am concentrating really hard on eating healthy and visualizing my stellar performance this weekend at the Mountain Goat 10 Mile Run in Syracuse, NY. I have visualized every aspect of the run and have put into my mind what Im going to say when the road gets rough out there!

Last weeks Numbers:
Swim 7734 Yards -2.5 hours
Bike 7.12 hours. - 1 bike ride outside 37 miles
Run 19.13 miles- 2.92 hours
Strength- 1 hour

TOTAL TIME 13:33:23

Happy Training!!

Weekly Report. An ending to a great week!

This week was another great week in the bag. I am 2 weeks out until my 10 mile race. I am excited and nervous at the same time. Coach thinks I can pull the run off at 8:30-8:40 if I am properly rested and Fueled. I have been running the coarse after a long training week and coming in in the low 9:00min/mile pace which is a big improvement from last year.

I have been having some mental blocks about this course and I talked with Coach about this tonight. She has told me I need to think why I am having these running blocks. Ill tell you a few reasons why:

1. I am faster than last year and want to prove these at the races
2. My legs are dead by mile 6 of the run because I am not on rested legs. I am going up the hill thinking my hammies hurt, my lungs hurt, people are passing me, WTF?! I get very down on the hills.
3. I am very competative, mostly with my own self.

Today I had an amazing run that boosted my spirits. I did end it short as I was caught in a windy rain storm. I did almost 4 miles in 32 min making my Ave 8:44min/mile. This was coming off a 3 hour trainer ride. I kept up with my nutrition the whole bike with drinking Hammer Perpetuem every 15min, Half a powerbar at 1:30.
I ALWAYS have better runs off the bike. Its insane!! I also have been paying much attention to my foot strike. Thinking of the Pose Method of running. Anyone think its a good method?? Its working for me. The concept is to get you more forward in running and thinking of a light foot, high cadence.

People talk about my bright colors while training. This week I wore my Lime Green Compression socks and my HOT pink Saucony Kinvaras. Last week, Hpt pink compression socks and Orange and Blue Brooks Racers. I like to be noticed. I like loud colors! Hey I had so many people know it was me! I even met the local weatherman and his wife this weekend in person and asked him to bring nice weather for the next 2 weeks!! Ha ha! I even had someone say I want to be your friend, you seem cool! Oh boy!

On last note, my last job interview (3 at the same place!!) really went well. Im crossing my fingers for that call this week to say I got the job! As long as the money is good I am so there! This place was wonderful! The people are just good people that work there.

Heres to another week in the bag:

Swim: 8694 yds- 2 hours 45 min
Bike: 6 hours 10 min- Trainer rides, Cycle classes.
Run: 21.17 miles- 4 hours 52 min
Strength- 1 hour
TOTAL TIME: 14:21:12

Happy Training!!

Week in Review 2/21/11-2/27/11

Last week was a recovery week. My body was really tired from the Tempo workouts I have been doing in Race Preparation that is going down this weekend!! I am so excited about this race mainly because I am putting the time and effort into my running and it is making some great progress!

My coach sent me an awesome race plan for this coming weekend and I hope Know that I will be executing the plan!! Hopefully the weather cooperates! I have been reviewing this over and over again, reading what she has outlined. Im going for it. Even if Im puking at the end!!

I have been trying to stay positive about the weather and get outside and run as much as I can. It beats riding that darn Treadmill or should I say DREADmill??! Ugh!

I had a really great week otherwise. Nothing too drastic!

Here is the week in Numbers
Strength: 1 hour
Swim: 4800 meters - 1 hour 30 min
Bike- 2 hours 30 min- trainer rides
Run- 19 miles- 3 hours 25 min

TOTAL time- 8 hours 25 min 34 sec

Happy Training!!!

Tuesdays Ramblings and Last Week in Numbers!

I cant believe I have been so Busy since Saturday! I hope all of you had a Wonderful, Mushy Valentines Day! I spent mine feeling not so hot after work but then a couple hours later was ready to Tackle my new Bike!

- I have to Say I LOVE LOVE LOVE my New Bike. Its like it Purrs on the Trainer! One thing I do have to do is switch out that lovely Seat and Get a White Adamo or Koobi Saddle. I have Been Looking at the Koobi Xenon Saddle and the reviews on it have been great so I might go with this one! Check it out at All3sports.com

- Today, I nailed my Tempo Run!! I had a Ave 8:32 for 4 miles. After this I thought I was going to blow chunks, but hey, I did it the way coach wanted me to. Just kidding I was fine afterwards!

- Swimming is back and forth. One day I feel good the next I am frustrated at how my swimming is going. I have a love hate relationship with the pool. Especially now that I am starting to incorporate flip turns into the deal. Hey, If I wanna act like I can swim I need to do it.

- Nutrition is iffy still. Darn Holidays always revolve around CANDY! I refused cookies yesterday but I did not deny myself a handful of Peanut M&Ms!

- I was thinking of changing to Carbo Pro Products/ First Endurance for Nutrition. Im still reading up on both. I have intestinal issues with everything So I want something that isn't going to make my stomach hurt

- I was really annoyed that a woman bigger than me, Plus size wore a Sports bra and Capris today at the gym. Let me tell you she had it all hanging out. But she wasn't ashamed of herself at all and I think this is what annoyed me because I am so self conscious and here she is saying she doesn't give a hoot. Shes going to be cool while she works out. I still wouldn't be caught doing it. I will admit I do wear only this on the trainer while in the comfort of my own home.

- Last note, the cold here stinks! It has been Freezing and Windy! Spring needs to get here FAST!

Onto the Numbers for last week. I did miss a few workouts due to my endoscopy and my needing a bucket to lean over afterwards for a while.

Ok Here you go:

Swim - 6000 meters  2 hours 45 min
Bike- 4 hours 35 min- Trainer
Run- 18.05- 3 hours
Strength- 1 hour 30 min

Total time: 11 hours 54 min.

Have a great week!

Last week in Review

Another week block of training in the bag! I never thought I would enjoy working out as much as I have over the last couple weeks. This has been my stress relief from work and everyday life. I think about everything and anything when Im training.

Last week went exceptionally well. I have to admit that I did skip a trainer ride because it was my Honeys birthday and we went to Outback for dinner and drinks. Hey, I need a margarita every now and then too!!

I have been playing with my nutrition and diet as well. Trying to figure out what works for me and what doesn't. Im getting there. Its a work in progress definately. But I am making strides. I was thinking about getting the new book on Ironman nutrition.

Im getting ready for the Shamrock 4 milers and they had great deals on GREEN things at Dicks so I picked up a few things. I also went online and got some CEP Green Compression socks! Woo hoo! I think they will match my Train-this outfit as well!! :)

I have been picking up some great running friends to tag along with me on my long runs! Time flies when you talk the whole time!

Here are the numbers!!

Strength 1 hour 30 min- Mixed in a little ab workout as well.
Swim- 2850 meters ; 2 hours
Bike- 4 hours 35 min- all trainer riding
Run- 21.82 miles- 3 hours 44 min

TOTAL 11 hours 49 Min!

Onto this week!! Enjoy!

Monday night review

Well, the Nor'easter is here!! Cold, windy and ICY!!

Im in a recovery week this week and Im soooo going to enjoy it!!

You can Click here to see all the pics from Its a Wonderful 5K. It was cool. MTV was there. A girl wanted to me "MADE" into a 5K Runner. I didn't realize I was sitting behind the camera, fixing my race bib, blowing my nose, so yeah I hope they cut that part out!!

Even though I didn't PR, I thought about the race yesterday. Here are my thoughts

1. My nutrition before hand was rock solid, eating well balance meal 2 hours before my run. 15 min before a gel, between that water water water

2. I went out WAAAYYY too fast for me. I get caught up in the moment. I need to hold my pace back. I started the first 1/2 mile at a 6:30 pace. First mile 8 min..second 9:08, third + .1 9:26. Yeah not a negative split again!

3. I red lined. I don't like feeling that way-

4. My Garmin for some reason stopped on its own. This is the second time this weekend...hmmmm

5. I felt like I was going to throw up the last half of the race..

6. I love people yelling to me nice shoes!! I have the new PINK Saucony Kinvaras!

Heres the numbers for last week:

Swim: 5,000 meters - 1 hour 5 min
Bike: 4 hours 30 min- Trainer + spinning
Run: 18.1 miles- 3hours 6 min 8 sec
Strength- 1hour 30 min

TOTAL! 11:01:08 (thats with skipping a day because of sickness!!)

Happy training

A week in Review

Ah, the Sunday Report. I love tallying up the numbers I've done for the week. It makes me feel good to know I have stayed true to my training over this Holiday Week. I also pretty much stayed true to my eating plan except for those handful of Cordial M&Ms I ate the other night. OMG they ARE SO GOOD! See I love the chocolate covered cherries, with the liquid center, not the creamy center (Gross), and the M&Ms match that flavor nicely. Oh, right we we talking about training...Lets Get on with it!!

I really had a great week, my shoulder acted up a little on the swims, ok, never had this happen before. It was with the use of Paddles. I must be swimming wrong with them.

I emailed one of Train This coaches and fellow teammate Kelly so she could tape me in the pool next week underwater. Woot that will be a hoot! Look for my stunning recap on Wednesday after my video shoot!! Ha ha!

Ok heres the week broken down-

Swim- 4,600 meters- 2hours 10 min
Bike- 5 hours 30 min- Spinning and on Trainer
Run- 17. 17 miles- 2 hours 40 min 28 sec
Strength- 1 hour 30 min

Total Time - 11:50:28

Time to put my feet up and watch a good Movie!! Happy Training everyone!

Happy Sunday!

The week is done, the time is flying. Before you know it, it will Be Christmas!! UGh! I hate Christmas Shopping. The BF and I went out shopping last night at the local mall and it was mobbed already!! We even had a couple people ask us for change! Are you serious?!! I work hard for my money. Don't ask me for mine unless it is going for a good cause! Geesh!

With that being said, today I got Videotaped swimming with an underwater camera!! I cannot wait for that to come back! I want to see what Im doing under there with my arms. I got to get in the water at the Total Immersion Clinic I am hosting. It is interesting to watch people that have no concept of balance!! Ha ha!! Believe me, I still have work to do myself!!

I also went out and did the local 10K Turkey Trot route that I will be doing on Thanksgiving morning before my big feast. I was a bit nervous and I think that is why I couldn't keep my heartrate down today. About 2 miles in I heard Gun ahots going off around every 2 minutes or so in the woods that I was running by. From mile 2-4 I heard gun shots!! I was a little freaked out!! I know they werent close because of the sound of the gun but it was still scary!! Then when I turned the corner I had wind gusts in my face for the last 2 miles which was mostly uphill. All in all I managed 6.44 miles in 1 hour. I'll take it!!

Im coming up on a recovery week...yeah!!

Here are the Numbers for this week..

Swim- 4700 meters; 2 hours
Bike- 2hours on Trainer, 44.43 miles in 2hrs 24min
Run- 15.64 miles  ; 2 hours 30 min
Strength- 1 hour

TOTAL- 9:53:52!! Phew!
