Week In Review 5/30/11- 6/5/11
1 more week of training in the bag! It feels great to be adding up the miles and distances!!
Monday- I was sore from the Fly By Night. I mean the muscles in my lower legs were achy. I really thought I had some shin splints but gradually this went away before the end of the day using Icy hot and Ibuprofen. I was thinking why was I hurting so bad when last year I was perfectly fine after this race.
Tuesday I had a nice Hour Muggy run in 90 degree weather.
Wednesday I did my first open water swim!! It was so relaxing and enjoyable. Not like last year when I almost drown.. I freaked out so bad due to the swells. This year, smooth sailing.
Thursday- It was so freaking windy that I moved my long ride and did some recovery workouts. I love recovery workouts. Although I think its harder to maintain slowness!!
Friday- I had the most enjoyable 3+ hour bike ride full of hills for the first half, Out to Fairhaven and back. Was so nice. I did get chased by a few dogs that scared the crap out of me!!!
Saturday- I biked 1:20 and then ran a great 5K, then with the little one
Sunday- I ran 1:53 min. 13 min past what I was supposed to but felt great doing it!! I estimated my route wrong! Oh well, Got it in! I skipped out on my recovery ride to watch my little one do a mini duathlon for kids. This is where it gets good. She learned how to finally ride her bike without training wheels!!!!! It took us 10-15min of her balancing on the bike, not pedaling, then I had her push on a pedal and coast to balance, then I stood behind her, got her going and Let go!!! She did it! I almost cried! The little things that make me so happy to be a mom!!
Here are the Numbers:
Swim- 7, 119 Yds- 2 hours 45 min
Bike- 108.33 miles- 7 hours
Run- 28.28 miles- 4.35 hours
Strength- 1 hour
Total Time- 15:19:32

Paige's Butterfly Run Recap

This race was formed in 1999 dedicated to raising money for the battle against Pediatric Cancer and the funding of a scholarship in Paiges name for Baker High School in Baldwinsville. Paige was a 1st grade student when she was diagnosed with Leukemia. She was treated at Both University Hospital in Syracuse, Ny as well as The Childrens Hospital in Boston, MA. Paige passed away after a bone marrow transplant later that same year in 1994. Her Parents were approached in 1997 to organize the run in her name through Palmer Elementary school. For 10 years it was run around Palmer but in 2008 moved into Syracuse with the Taste of Syracuse Festival.
Run the race for a good cause, then taste some of the best food in Syracuse. 2 Pluses in my Book!
It was a gorgeous day for a run. Prior to running I took Herbie out for a 1:23 Bike ride as I had a brick scheduled. Got back to the house, threw the running gear on, Got the kids ready (honey included) and headed down to Syracuse. We got there 30 min before the start. I was feeling a little chilly but knew it would pass when I started running.
Took some pics with the little one and said hello to some friends and I was off! I was talking too much that I didn't realize I was starting mid pack. Eh, it didn't matter it would be net timed as well as gun timed which is always nice. Fairness is the game here.
The first mile I took it easy. Met up with a CNY Tri friend and talked with him for about a half mile.
Mile 1- 8:56
I knew I talked too much and needed to pick the pace up a bit. Mile 2 I was weaving in and out of people. We then went along this tight path and I couldn't really pass people very well
Mile 2- 8:29
The last mile I was feeling good and just tried to hang onto the pace I was at. I was tired from 6 hours of biking in the last few days but I knew I was having a great solid run.
Mile 3- 8:24Turned the Corner and saw the balloons, the finish line. I gunned it. My lungs were burning. I knew I could do it though
.17- 7:30
Overall time 26:59- According to my watch 8:33 pace, their watch 8:41 pace
468/1486 total finishers
30/115 in AG
I got a drink and waited about half hour and got set up to run again with my daughter. She got in the front and GUNNED it out of the start. She gunned it so hard I was chasing her down for a good .25 miles. I couldn't believe this! Then, She started slowing, slowing to the point she had to walk a few times. I kept giving her encouragement as well as my honey who was on his bike taking pics, so excited to see her race!! Its so great seeing him be so great to my daughter and loving everything she does.
She finished 1.75 miles in 19:48 (11:20 min miles!!!) So proud!!! Shes going to be beating me soon enough!! Cant wait to see what she has in store!

Gunning to the Finish |
We finished up with some samples of Chicken Riggies From Dominicks, a chicken Salad and of course the little one had to get Ice cream!! I tried to stay in the core the best I could!! Too much temptation but I didn't endulge in any sweets! Woot!
Happy Training!!

Tomorrow is the day
Tomorrow is the Day I will be under anesthesia getting a endoscopy. I went through all the pre testing and Passed..Now I have to fast and not eat anything pretty much the whole day tomorrow since my procedure isn't until 12:45!! I cannot believe they expect a person to wait to eat this long! .
I put off my run tonight and am going to do it tomorrow after my bike workout. Making it a little brick because darn it, thats what I feel like doing!
So Im going to suffer through not eating until possibly 2pm tomorrow, eat a hearty meal and get to work!!
My daughter tells me her throat hurts tonight. Sure, she has a fever of almost 101F. Great!!! I think she might have a case of Strep! Just what I need right now as I just stated to the lady who called my today from the Endoscopy office that I am without fever or illness in the last 3 days!! Hopefully my smooching of my little one today does not affect me!! She is supposed to be in school tomorrow while I am on Fentanyl and Versed!!
Cross your fingers!!

Last week in review
It was a great training week yet again. Although I was running out of steam by the time I hit yesterdays 5K.
I had a crazy week at work trying to interview new people for a LPN position that just opened up at our practice as well as see patients, Refills, Labs, etc, etc. I never thought I'd be so busy! Its crazy! But a good crazy!
Thursday while at gymnastics Caitlin was doing a high split jump and landed on her foot wrong and her knee started hurting so we were in the Urgent care for 4 hours. It was very comical listening to the nurses outside the room talk about triathlons and road races. "A kilometer is more than a mile right?!" "A triathlon is only for people that can run 7 min or faster", Cazenovia triathlon is like 10 miles isn't it? It was really amusing!
Anyways Caitlin has a sprain, on crutches with no Gymnastics for 2 weeks. We need to see a Orthopedic specialist as she has alot of instability to her Left knee. Im hoping no tears.
Saturday night I watched a movie "The Road" Very good. I highly recommend watching it. Go and rent it now!! :)
All in this time frame I still managed to take care of a 7 year old, have some play time and get my training in! Im multitasking well, Finally!
Here are the numbers
Swim- 5600 meters - 1 hour 47 min
Bike- 5 hours 5 min- Trainer rides
Run- 19.56 miles- 3 hours 12 min
Strength- 1 hour 30 min
Total time: 11:34:09

TGIF!!!
This week was crazy at work! I cant believe how many patients I saw! I was a walking zombie by 4:30 this afternoon. Do you know what the number 1 medical daignosis I made on half of my patients?! Depression. I cannot believe how many Central New Yorkers are Depressed. There are many factors that play a role. The new economy, lower pay raises, Winter season. One therapy I always recommend....exercise! Natural high!
I was depressed 5 years ago but decided to take an active approach and took up weight loss and exercise. I have never been more happier with this in my life. I always tell my patients to take up something that they want/love to do but haven't as it will make their mood better.
I am so proud of my little girl! She was asked to move up to the Advanced Super Stars gymnastics session because she fufilled all the basic skills of the Super Star class. She finally did a backwards flip by herself! She has only been doing this for 10 weeks. She is naturally athletic and I am going to foster that! I was watching her run the other day and she just has grace that I dont have! Its so interesting to watch her! I am a Proud mommy!
Im so excited for this weekend as I will be seeing alot of the Train-this athletes! We are meeting for some testing at the Local YMCA and I am stoked! I hope I can keep up with them! I have a 2 hour ride with 20 min recovery run on tap for the morning! Then Sunday is 10 mile TT test and swim videos! Ahhh! My coach said bring pre-ride, in ride and post ride nutrition. Pre ride I always do a meal 1-2 hours before riding followed with a simple sugar 15min beforehand. while Im riding it is either Perpetuem/Heed drink. Post ride is aways a little carb and protein shake.
Let me put it out there...what is your nutrition like?? I am trying to gain insight on what others do as I am trying to master this STILL!! Im hoping to have it down before my 140.6!!

Parent Teacher Conference
Today was the dreaded Parent Teacher conference where they tell you all about the things that your child does in school...Oh boy. I have to say that last year I was getting notes home everyday that my daughter was doing something wrong at school. She even had lunch detention...TWICE...In 1st GRADE!!
Now this year, I haven't heard a peep from her 2nd grade teacher. I ask everyday. How was school. I didn't get a note?! Wow, my daughter can be good!!
As I approached the classroom, I was ready to listen to what her teacher had to say.
- Caitlin is progressing nicely. She is a great reader. She loves to read. Having a little difficulty with applying stories to real life or relating stories.
- Caitlin is very good with math. Sometimes her teacher wonders if she acts like she doesn't know what she is doing to get a little extra attention (yep thats her)
- Caitlin is a Very good athlete. She is really strong and fast. I wont be surprised if she gets a scholarship someday (What?!! My daughter that doesn't even want to ride her bike?! What?!!)
+Caitlin has a very strong personality but loves to please people which I love about her. (GREAT!!)
Phew!!! Im so glad that went well. My daughter is turning into her own little person and I love the fact she is getting more and more independent each day!! She will be 7 in 8 Days!!! Ahh!!
On the other hand, I had an annual physical today as I was "non-compliant" at my job. Ok, if you told me I needed a whole physical, I would have gone and received one. When you don't tell me I cannot read your mind Health Department!! I am a Healthy 29 3/4 year old!!
Anyways my heartrate was 44 and my B/P was 98/70. I think the lady looked at me a dozen times to see if I was really alive. Are you a runner? She asked. Why Yes, yes I am......I am a TRIATHLETE!!! :)

Being Grateful
My daughter and I talked about Being grateful today. Somedays I just don't think she has any idea of what she should be grateful for!
We started with the Definition-
Grateful- warmly or deeply appreciative of Kindness or benefits received; Being thankful
Today after Gymnastics she started whining, Why cant Gymnastics be 4 hours long?!! Why is it only 1?!! Help me get dressed mommy!! Eh I cant tie my shoes!! You do it!! Why cant you do it?!! Sound Familiar?!! So I picked her up as she was whining and the last one out of the gym as always and took her outside with her coat off and her shoes off. Luckly it was still 50 degrees out she didn't get too cold.
What ever happened to kids being grateful for what they got?! I discussed this with her tonight and she has no clue that some people go without eating on a daily basis, some people have to walk everywhere because they have no car, some people have to wear the same clothes everyday because they have no money to buy new ones, Some people don't have running water, oh the list can go on and on. So this is what we talked about on the way home in the car.
I am grateful that I have a good job, I am healthy, I have great parents that taught me right from wrong, that I never got into alcohol or drugs, that I am me!!! I am so grateful that God gave me my little girl to teach these things too!!
Tomorrow my daughter will tell me what she is grateful for as I had her sleep on it tonight as it was late when we got home. Cannot wait to hear her answer tomorrow!!
