The temps are finally warmer in Central New York and I was able to ride 3 Long Rides this past week!!! I even have some nice racer back tan lines now and of course the infamous Biker short tan lines!! Im rocking them!!
I am nailing my nutrition and I am feeling good coming off the bike. This never happened before this year. It is good to know I can do well off the bike if my Nutrition is properly maintained on the Bike.
I have been thinking alot about the races I have coming up. Fly By Night duathlon, Tri-Oswego (Which is still in question for me right now), Musselman HIM. I don't know why I've been thinking alot about Iron Girl Sprint race. Mostly because I was 11thOA last year and really want to push it to top 5 depending on who shows up to race. I know I can do it. My running is definately better than last year.
My honey told me today he was proud of me and what I am doing. Its the little things that make a difference. He talks about me and my accomplishments all the time. Im so lucky to have him in my life. He makes me see the birght side of everything. (He also told me my racing kit doesn't flatter my figure....hmmmm, so Im not racing in it this weekend!!! sorry coach!)
Last week was a pretty good week in training. The only day I didn't get to do the full workout was Saturday and that was because my little one had a bigger attitude than me this day. I can win some and lose some I guess.
The core diet is going great! Since last week I am down 1.4 pounds! For the month so far 6.6 pounds!! Woot!
Here are the numbers:
Swim- 8, 311 Yds- 2.75 hours
Bike- 8 hours- 107.18 miles plus some trainer mileage with recovery w/o's
Run- 4 hours- 26.35 miles
Strength- 1 hour
Total Time- 16:12:35

Chilly Chili 5 K race report.
I would have to say today was one of the coldest days I have ran outside in. It was about 4 degrees this morning with a wind chill to make the temp -15 Degrees farenheit. Cold, Cold, COLD! As I opened my eyes this morning, my first thought was I have to run 80 min today. How do I do this and tie a race in there as well? So, I went to the gym for 50 or so min and did 5 miles there in Zone 2 which is 145-155 for me. I did great keeping pace, but I had a guy running around the track behind me so whenever he got close to me, my Heart Rate Monitor would shoot from 146 up to 177! Now I knew this wasn't me and I was getting a little upset about it. But, what could I have done to rectify the situation? Nothing. So I stayed calm and finished my run.
Onto the race. I met a friend, Doug, at the Local Y and we road together. Its so nice to ride with someone and have someone to talk to at a race. We had talks about all our tri moments, our accomplishments, what our goals are this year. It was a nice car ride. We got to the venue and Doug still had to register. We got through the line pretty quick and onto the bathrooms. Why is it that females are so SLOW in the bathroom?!! Just tinkle and get out already! It took me a good 15 min to get into the bathroom. geesh.
I was a little concerned on what I was going to wear as the temps didn't seem to be elevating much over 10 degrees. It was fairly calm in Cazenovia which is surprising because the lake was not too far from the start line. I figured I would toss one of my layers off and just wear a baselayer and thicker Nike shirt on top and base layer and wool pants, wool sock, Balaclava on the head and mittens on the fingers. I was cold at the start but everyone was! We were all jumping, talking with our teeth cattering at each other.
The gun went off and we booked. I started more towards the front as I didn't want to get caught up with slower runners. Of course people passed me left and right but I didn't care. I was there to run my own race. I wasn't competing, just out for a run with friends. The first mile of this race is tough. There is about a half mile hill that you have to climb and it feels like it is never ending. I was very proud as this year I didn't stop once in the race. Last year I stopped on this hill. Yes I did slow down a bit but I wasn't walking!!
Mile 1- 9:06
I felt like I was being consistent today. Keeping up with cadence and just going by feel. Yes my legs felt dead like lead, and I had the rub on to prove it. So bad I made Doug gag a few times on the smell on the car ride there!!! Ha ha!
The next mile was just peaceful, nice downhill into a cul-de-sac. It was nice because we saw the faster runners at this time running. I always love seeing that.
Mile 2- 9:08
The next mile was all about keeping a steady pace as it was a slight decline the whole time. I said some kind words to the slower runners and kept trucking along. Man was I feeling cold and my toe was acting up!
Mile 3- 8:34
The last .16 (not .10) was slightly uphill and then a straight away to the finish. I kicked it up a bit but not too much.
last .16- 8:27
Total time 3.16 28:06- Average per mile 8:55!
I was a little disappointed when I saw their results 27:57, Ave 9:00, but they go by the shortest route possible and I did start my garmin when the gun went off. So this wasn't my Net time on my Garmin. But if you include my .16 it would be about the same. Under 9 min miles...woo hoo!
Next, we layered on warmer clothes and had some fun at the Chili cook off!! Yum!
Looking back on last years race, I felt overall better about my fitness. Last year my time was 28:50 /9:17 per mile so I did improve and this was coming off a 2 hour bike and 50 min run!! Yay!!
I tried to Use Snagit to show you all the data but unfortunately it wont POST!! UGH!
Happy training!

Reflections on Past Races
When I got home from work Yesterday, my boyfriend had constructed a Shelf to proudly display all our medals from different races that we have done throughout the last 4 years. It was so thoughtful of him to be so proud of me and my accomplishments. (that is what he said anyways)
I am so grateful that I am able to have done the many races I have done and receive some very awesome medals in return.
As I was looking at them, I noticed my 2 marathon medals from Lake Placid. My 3 year winning my age group streak at the Tour De Loop 30 mile bike race (which I am pouting because I gave it to someone else this year as I didn't do the race), My Iron Girl Medals, My 3rd place 10k medal, My 2nd OV Tri medal, and of course my first 70.3 medal. All of which brought back so many happy memories. Its like a photograph, you begin to tear up thinking of the day, the moment.
7 years ago I would've never thought I would proudly hang all these medals right in the entryway to my living room. 7 years ago I was an overweight woman just trying out a run walk program at the local YMCA, trying to be consistent in my efforts. Fast forward 7 years and I am still as active as ever. I love what I do, it gives me the runners high, the feeling of freedom, the stress reduction.
When I look at this self, this wonderful warm sensation of gratitude and happiness comes over me that I can say I have acheived so much and will continue to achieve that much more!!

Lake Delta Olympic
I am so excited and proud of myself again today!!! I finished my first Olympic Distance Triathlon today!!
Despite the crappy weather conditions and a few blisters on my feet from Soggy wet shoes, I had a great race!!
I am happy to say I placed 2nd in my Age group!!! Woooootttt!!!! This is such an accomplishment for me as last year I was at the bottom, not seeing the results I wanted to. Now Im where I want to be!!!
I am taking down the 1st place age group winner in my age group!!! Ugh!! She beat me at Iron Girl Too!! By a minute!! Shes a Phenominal runner, and passed me on the second loop around. I need to step up my game!!

Iron Girl Race Report
Im a little tired from all the excitement of this weekend. My training has been paying off big time this year. Im finally where I want to be in the Triathlon World.
Im very pleased with my time for this years Aflac Iron Girl Sprint Triathlon that was held this past Saturday at Oneida Shores.
The Swim was a running start to the Lake. It was very shallow at first but I dove right in and started swimming. I rounded the last bouy and knew I could push more so I did. Ended up going off course just a bit but did well.
Transition was a little slow, but you had to run a distance to get to transition
Onto the Bike. This is where my comfort lies and I totally executed my bike. I past by a guy that said you must be a slow swimmer!! Little did he know there were waves and I was the 5th wave. I stayed on the orange line, that was my plan, and pushed hard. I passed several girls, cheering them on as I passed. I gave it my all, even bunny hopped the railroad tracks!! :)
T2- I took my feet out of my shoes and got off my bike! Perfect! One thing I did was run out of transition without my race belt!!
Run- felt fast the first half, I took an Accelgel on the run, I really thought it sat well and had a great Strawberry Kiwi taste to it which I love!!! I thought my running was slowing down in the second half but it was so nice to look at the calves in front of me and see they were all 40-50 year old ladies!! That meant my age group hadn't caught up to me yet, until about a half mile to the finish and I saw a woman with my name in my age group pass me...oh well, only one.
All in all I Couldn't be prouder of what I did this year at this race. I was second in my age group and got this beautiful bracelet.
The bracelet was made by TriClique Jewelry. When I opened the package there was a little message inside that was very inspiring. It read:
"Grace, also the name of symbol used within the Iron Girl Logo, is within us all.
Its what makes woman heroic, charming and limitless. Grace is with us in difficult
times and in happy times, silly times and sad times. Grace is with us
physically, mentally and emotionally. May you always find Grace in your life and in your
next race!"
I think Im going to wear it to all my races.
Heres the final result of my race...
Swim- 8:53/ 1:29 pace Rank 36/730
T1- 2:01
Bike- 50:25/ 22.2 mph pace Rank 3/730
T2-0:49
Run- 27:22/ Pace 8:49min/mile Rank 147/730
Time: 1:29:27
Place: 11/730 females
Div Place: 2nd in AGE group 30-34
That being said, the next day we took the bikes out for a 56.6 mile Bike on the Syracuse HIM course. I was beat afterward!!
Here is 8/2-8/8 week numbers:
Swim- 3250 meters- 1 hr 4 min 53 sec
Bike- 112.07 miles- 6 hrs 25 min 25 sec
Run- 8 miles- 1 hr 2 min
Time to start running some more this week!!! :)

Reflections on 2009 Iron girl Race; In preparation for Tomorrow
Tomorrow I will be racing the Iron Girl again at Oneida Shores. It consists of this year a 600 m swim, 18.8 mile bike, 3 mile run.
With thoughts of feeling better prepared this year to race I thought I would look back at my numbers from last year-
800 m- 16:09 (wow, I was slow!!!) Hoping this year with a 600m swim I will come out close to 11 min
T1-1:20. Ok I probably cannot do much better than this since the race doubled in size since last year, but Ill try!!
Bike- 18.8 miles- 54:48 ave 20.4 mph. I think I can pick up the speed here as I am a bit faster on my bike this year.
T2- 1:44, Ok I have to admit that I putted and drank water in transition. NOPE not this year. I am going to execute getting off my bike with my shoes still clipped to the bike. Hopefully it will be under 1:00
Run- 32:33 Oh god, what happened?!!! I got cramps galore. This year Im pushing a 26-27 min finish, hopefully better as I have been training on this course since June Every wed and do a 24-25 min run.
All in all I want to shave 10 min off my time and think I might just make my goal...Stay tuned!!!! :)

Fly By Night Duathlon Race Report
(Watkins Glen Race track watching the race)
What a perfect day for a race! Couldn't ask for Better! The race took place at Watkins Glen Speedway on May 29, 2010. Racing at 6pm was a change from the 8am start we usually have for races. My brother in law was doing the race with me so we decided on meeting at the race track, watch some of the Porsches go by and then get ready to race the night away.
Registration went smoothly even though I had to go back to the car to get my ID and USAT card. I wasn't too happy that I didn't receive my arm warmers at the registration tent, but I could pick them up after the race as my size medium wasn't available yet.
Onto the race. We still had to pick up our chip timer so the race had to start later than expected. They were also still cleaning up the track for us to race on it.

Waiting for our chip timer
After we got our chip timer, the track was cleaned and we were encouraged to do a warm-up lap on our bikes. My brother in law and I went out counter-clockwise on the track. (I am still getting used to riding a triathlon specific bike this year. I am really comfortable and used to my rode bike.) The Course was great until we reached the back side of the course which was pretty steep. I needed to get out of aero position to
get up the hill.
We were fooling around after that, showing my muscles off, laughing, the usual. Then the gun went off and the race was on! I have to say I was proud of my race as this is the first race I did without any cramps in the legs at all!! I made sure I ate a well balanced meal the night before, a great balanced breakfast, a light lunch, and hydrated well the day before and the whole race day. An hour before the race I took a chocolate Ensure which I swear has been helping me ward off the cramps, 10 min before the race I took more water with my Hammer Anti-fatigue tabs, then every 20 minutes During the race I drank my Power Bar Endurance Fruit Punch drink. I have never felt better in a race as I felt in this one. Even though I thought my bike could've been alot better, I felt good!! Here are the results:
Overall Time: 2:06:05
135/190 overall
18/44 Female
4th in Age Group
Second 1.8 mile Run
Second 10.1 mile Bike Leg
Finishing as the Sun is Setting!!
