My former coach is doing just that. I am totally stoked about her interest and passion for Teens living with cancer
On a tweet to Lance Armstrong, She challenged him to a silly 50 meter Kick off. Well that little joke turned into this amazing fundraising event for both Teens Living with Cancer and the Livestrong foundation. Check out her blog at ironmomma.com
When I read Melissa's story on webpage. I had tears flowing. She is such a inspiration to all. Whether your life takes a turn, you keep perservering. From what I read, she was a wonderful person, full of joy, full of determination.
I donated today to this cause. Imagine if we all donated what we could to help these kids go on living despite their disease process.
Thank you Mary, Thank you for bringing this to the forefront. Thank you Lance for accepting my coaches challenge. May she win your bike in the end!!

Athleta Iron Girl 2011 Pre Race thoughts
Tomorrow I am settling in on doing a hometown race. Im so glad I get to sleep in my own bed! Although I will be waking up at 4:30 in the morning to be out the door by 5 as parking seems to be a big factor this year.
I have raced this Sprint triathlon the last 2 years and it is so inspiring to watch all the people that I have trained with week by week in the same venue through our Local Triathlon Club, CNY Tri. (Which has made USAT rankings as one of the clubs with highest members, 1,000+) We cheer each other on, we hoot and holler at each other, its just a fun race. This year it grew to 1,200 participants and sold out within 3 weeks time. Talk about a hot triathlon!! (If you are a single male this is a race you dont want to miss!! ;P )
Anyways, I racked my bike today and the transition area has been moved from previous years where it was a grassy transition to the parking lot pavement. Transition was long last year, but its even longer this year from the swim. Last year the swim course was off about a 100 meters and I made it back to shore in 8 min. This year it is going to be well calculated and I know that time will go up to around 10-11 minutes.
The bike course has changed too!! We are going out a different way, adding about .5miles onto the course. No big deal there but it will definately change bike times! Last year I was 50:25(? sec) for 18.8 miles. Lets see If I can bring that down to 47-48 min. I am faster on my bike this year, but I am racing this after biking 2+ hours today. (I am all in my compression gear as I am typing away)
The run is a little different as well, but not much. It is having us go down a little path then onto the run course. Still a 5K no matter how we look at it. Last year I was 25:??. This year I am gunning for 24-25:00
I have been PRing all my other races this year, Im hoping to PR this one as well!!!
I asked coach if she thought I could do better than my 11th OA finish last year. She replied " You have PR'd every single race you've done this year! Everyone at that start line has a chance to win the race. Its what you can control that helps you win. Your FOCUS and Your INTENSITY!! Let it Rip!!"
Ok coach!!! GAME ON!!!!!!

ItS Friday, Friday!!
Wow I haven't posted in a few days!! Its been a crazy mad house! Thinking about this weekend. My daughters activities. I think I lost my mind a few times.
I had a great week. I met up with a triathlete friend that I have known for the past 3 years. She has done IM Kentucky, IM Placid, IM Florida just to name a few. We did a ride together and it was nice to know we are about the same bike wise and we hung in together for a 2 hour ride in the sun.
One thing I didn't like was all the dogs chasing us on one of the country roads we went on!!! Isn't there leash laws out in the country too. One guy said "shes ok" to a dog that ran out and started chasing us. yeah buddy, you never know!!! A few German Shepards, Rotweillers, Pit Bulls to name a few were running at us. Good thing I had my sprint legs ready because I sure used them!
I did a tempo run on Wednesday instead of a Endurance run...Whoops! I think when you put on a training series and run with everyone you find yourself going faster. It felt good though so I ran with it. It was hot and muggy!! Phew!
I am off to Lake Placid in 3 hours!!! I am training with my COACH and TEAM!!! How can it get any better?!! Training, beers, laughter, friendships, memories. There all going to be made in Placid this weekend. I cannot wait!!!
Hope you guys have a great weekend and I will have lots to report on Monday!!!
Happy and Safe Training!

Week in Review- February 14, 2011-February 20, 2011
Last week was a typical week for me except for one thing. I suddenly feel like I am enjoying my running! I am seeing gains like no tomorrow! I have stayed true to my Zones like Coach Mary has said and it is totally paying off!
Started off the week with a sore throat but started extra Vitamin C and Fluids. My job even swabbed me for the flu. Luckly I didn't have it. I had a pounding headache and a sore throat thats all.
By Wednesday I had a Sinus Infection but nothing that deterred me from my workouts.
Friday I complained to my honey yet again about my nether regions. I really need to invest in a new seat. This upcoming week I will be perusing the internet and scoping out the softer seats. I have a hard time with firmer seats as I have no padding on this area. I can feel my bones digging into the seat as I ride. Not comfy if you ask me. So if you got any tips to make this easier let me know.
Saturday I managed 2 hours on my bike, 30 min on the Spin Bike, While watching New Moon, then a 30 min run. I felt like I could run forever off the bike. I don't know why Im so fascinated by the Twilight series but I am. Im a sucker for romance, even when vampires and werewolves are the theme!!
Sunday I did a 1:24 run with 2 of my best running partners. I made them Do mile repeats with me all while groaning at first. By the end, they were loving them, wanting to do them again. We did 1 mile repeats x5. The goal was 8:20min/mi pace. Yeah thats not how it went- It went a little something like this 7:47, 8:00, 8:20, 8:40, 8:20. Eh, I tried.
I had a great email from my Coach this week that made my week a little more positive about the training Ive been doing. Heres the email-
"I have to tell you sister, you are absolutely rocking this program. You are an Absolute DREAM to coach. I can not wait to start your freaking season already because I fully believe we have PRs at every single turn here."
What a way to end a crappy Friday at work to get this message to birghten my weekend. Thanks Coach! Im trying!
Onto the Numbers
Swim- 4,200 meters- 1 hour 45 min
Bike- 5 hours 30 min - trainer riding
Run- 23.8 miles- 3 hours 14 min
Strength- 1 hour 30 min
Total Time: 12 hours 29 min
Happy Training!!

Looking for a Coach
I have been looking at getting a coach for next season. Why you might ask?? Because I am going to do my FIRST Ironman!!! Yes I said it. Im getting a little crazy over here...but I think Im ready to take it to the next level if Syracuse 70.3 goes well which Im sure it will!!
I have been debating this for a few months now and cannot think of any reason not to!!!
Heres some things I am looking in a coach (and I do have a few Im looking into at the moment!!):
1. They have to be accessable. I do not want to wait 3-4 days for answers or feedback
2. Someone with solid credentials. Someone that is a triathlete themselves and has been coaching for at least a few years.
3. A tailored plan for me,myself and I.
4. Someone that can adjust training if I get sick, or injured, or miss a workout
5. Someone that is going to provide Structure, motivation and success!!!
An effective way to stay motivated and to develop a solid training plan is to hire a coach. All the pros and elite triathletes do!! Why not the age groupers too?!!!
