Whats been happening?!! I haven't been blogging much because of the Preganacy!
I am 6 weeks away and counting down to the birth of my baby Damon!!! I am feeling huge these days, getting short of breath and minor aches and pains here and there.
I did receive my Syrathon Medal and Shirt!! Yes, I stayed active all summer long, running anywhere from 5ks to 10miles. It was a toughy at the end but managed to get 27.3 miles in racing done!!
I have now been slightly running but more walking and cross training. My belly has gotten too big to even feel comfortable on my bike anymore.
We did some pregnancy pics with my honey who is a photographer! I love them completely!!
I am itching to race again and pretty much have the next year racing schedule complete. I have been really thinking about doing some more Road Bike racing this upcoming year because I just love to draft and bike!!
I do have Tupper Lake on Tap and am nervous that I wont be ready in time but one day at a time!! It will be a challenge but I think it will be manageable!!
Happy Training!!

"Running" a 5K at 31 weeks!
Last week I ran my last 5K to earn my Syrathon Medal!! Yay me!! I ran a total of 26.2 miles to get the medal this summer on paper. I ran more than that, but it feels good to stay motivated throughout your pregnancy.
Last week was a very trying "race" for me. It had a few hills from one of the toughest runs in CNY, the Mountain goat!!! It also was a rainy, chilly mess. I really struggled with heart rate and breathing. Its getting to the point where my runs are really slowing down and are a little more cumbersome these days. Im glad I had my good friend running with me to keep me company
Last weeks race was A run for their lives, this event benefits the Carol M Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund and brings runners through Thornden Park, University Neighborhoods, and along the Connective Corridor! There is a 15K and 5K.
It was nice to see people I haven't seen in a while. It was also nice of all the surprised looks and great jobs I got!! It kept me moving to the finish even with the ran and chill!!
At the end was hot chocolate and a pumpkin muffin. I was in heaven since everything pumpkin seems to suit my fancy lately!!
Counting down the weeks when I will see my precious little one!! Im so excited I cannot wait!!

27 weeks down, 13 to go!!
I am almost in my third trimester!! Its all going to fly from here Im sure! I have been a bit antsy to get back into the racing scene, dreaming of what running race will start my season next year. I do have a few of my Tri-Races deferred until next year which will definately have me motivated come the New Year!
I am having fun just enjoying that I can still do a little running, biking and swimming. I still try to keep at least 40min-1 hour workoutd 5-6 days a week depending on my energy level. I have had some not so good days with Round Ligament pain and a vaso-vagal episode. But its been a great pregnancy so far! I have not had any swelling or leg cramping like I did with my daughter which seems to amaze me. I also haven't gained as much which is a big plus!
My Big girl has entered Level 4 Gymnastics. Which means 3 hours, 3 days a week plus meets. Its going to be a tiring year!! Oh boy! I think about it though and it gives me plenty of time to get in a workout here and there. She also started playing the flute, and let me tell you, its been about 4 hours listening to her toot, tooting. She also cant wait to be a Big Sister!! Its been almost 9 years!! She is going to be a great help to me Im sure.
I have opted out of the Syrathon race this weekend. Its 4 miles and kind of hilly. I think I could do it, but after this week I've had, I am going to rest and help my Big girl with a school project about nature! Its going to be a lot of fun Im sure.
Next up for me will be the Breast Cancer run next month. I only have 2 miles left to get that Syrathon Medal!! Even if I have to walk the run, I will get that medal!! :)

Syrathon #5 at 24 weeks
Sunday was the 5th Syrathon race. This late summer run launches from the Syracuse Inner Harbor and visits Leavenworth Park and the Creekwalk. Proceeds benefit the Inner Wealth Initiative, a collaborative and grass-roots movement intended to enhance the mental health and wellness of children and families throughout our communities.
I have to say it was a pretty flat and fast course, but fast is not my game at 24 weeks pregnant!!
I was excited that I would be racing with my honey as this was the first run we have actually done together in quite some time due to both our racing schedules. He decided he was going to run it with me, but I knew that would last long!
We met up with our friends and were off to the Inner harbor around 8am. Quick stop at Dunkin for the friends and we were there by 8:20AM. We went and got our Shirt, which was the brightest orange I've ever seen, and our race bib.
Andy ran it all back to the car while we looked around at the tents. We saw Otto the Orange. The SU mascot making everyone laugh as he was copying people streching and running. I believe he actually ran some or all of the race as well!!
The heat and mugginess started to pick up and I could tell that I would have a little harder time running in the heat. I did bring my own water bottle to keep hydrated throughout the run. We started the first mile all together..me, my honey and friend (who shouldn't have been running due to a back injury!!). Finally I said I needed to slow down a bit as we were under 10 min miles and I coud feel I was getting out of breath.
This is when my honey left us on our own!! ha ha!! I wished him luck and he ended up with a great run despite his first mile with me!!
The clock ticked on, the race got hotter, I had to stop about 3 times. I was happy I made it to the finish in 34:40! Its hard being slow!
All in all, a great race through the city of Syracuse!!
After the race we sat and ate the post race grub, then we were off to a great picnic with friends from the CNY Tri Club with Dinasour BBQ for lunch!! YUM!

Syrathon Run #4, Valley Nature 4 miler
Last weekend, at 22 weeks pregnant, I ran the Valley Nature Run in the Park 4 miler. My daughter wanted to join too and since Im not running fast these days I let her join me!
It was a little race compared to others I have done. Only a mere 221 people raced this day.
The day started off slightly cooler than the days have been, but I could feel as the hour before the race went by that it was starting to get warmer.
The race started and ended at the same place. It took you through some of the streets of Syracuse, and into a little wooded area then back to the finish. The first 2 miles were pretty flat with a couple of rolling hills. There was hardly any shade and it was getting hotter by the minute. Around mile 1 my daughter decided she was going to slow down. I told her to keep going. I wanted to see if she could push herself with me not being by her side. I know. tough love. But hey, she needs it at this time.
We made our way into a trail around mile 2. It was a tough little trail! a couple steeper climbs, full of roots and rocks! Im glad I wore my trail shoes for that part! I started to get a little cooler in the trail. Thank god for some shade! I actually started feeling good right around here.
As we made our way out of the trail about a mile later, it was pretty much downhill to the finish line. I made my way around the last mile in 8 min!! wow! See, I still have some of it in pregnancy too!! ha ha!
I finished the race in 50 min, With some walking, stopping to look for my daughter, and just plain enjoying myself!! I love not having any time goals or competition!! :)
My daughter finished up right after me! I was surprised to see her so quickly!! She placed 2nd in her AG and I couldn't be prouder that she was out there doing it...Without me!!
After we had popcicles and Free Ice cream courtesy of the Ice cream shop across the street!! YUMMY!
At 22 weeks with my daughter |
My friend was also diong the race with her husband. It was nice that she was going to run the race with me due to her back was just not up to par after pulling it the week before.
We arrived a little early to sign the little one up, look at the Fleet feet tent and put our names in the prize giveaway.

I have been on cloud 9 and soaking this pregnancy in to the fullest. I cant believe its almost halfway over already!!
Happy Training!!

RUNapalooza 5K at 16 weeks
Last weekend I had a chance to participate in the inaugural 5K, RUNapalooza. This was put on by the local Feet Feet store. I set out around 8:30AM knowing the race was going to be at 9:30AM. Wanted to get there early and get settled in. I ate my usual breakfast of Banana and Toast with Peanut Butter as now Im not going for time and worrying about vomiting or the other end!
I walked out of the house and knew it was going to be a hot run. I loaded up on the water and half gatorade prior to the race because now I even sweat more than any man I know!
I got to the race with about a half hour to spare, looked around and saw many familiar faces from the Triathlon community as well as the running community.
The race was a 2 loop 1.55 mile or so course on closed roads, which I thought was great, no cars to contend with!
The race started on time and I took a seat right in the middle of the line. I started out running really well despite my slowness. The race was a flat, downhill, uphill, flat run x2. I felt great and was running smoothly. I looked down at my heartrate monitor and I was right on target with what I should be at while pregnant per doctors orders. The hill on the back side was gradual, not steep, but enough to make you hotter on a really hot morning.
I rounded the first lap and saw another pregnant woman, probably around 6-7 months running. I thought to myself, she isn't beating me! My only competition at this point! Ha ha! I did have to stop at all the water stops, pour water on me to cool me down.
I started feeling the heat and just wanted to be done, so I surged to the end, even having a 8:30 pace for a few min.
Total time 35:26
My thoughts on this race is I really didn't care for it. It is a 2 loop course so faster runners are coming up on your side and there was NO shade at all from the heat. Granted its only a 5K!
I also thought there was so much hype about this race with bands, vendors, post race party. I was a little disappointed with the turn out that was so hyped up. There was only a few vendors, 3 bands and a post race party consisting of beer only. If you wanted food, you had to pay for it. Not that Im complaining because the post race refreshments were great and plenty, but if you are going to hype up a race, it should reflect this on race day.
Needless to say, I crossed this off my 5K checklist. Done
Happy Training Everyone!!

Spectating a 70.3
Today I was a spectator to the Ironman Syracuse 70.3. Again, Its amazing to just watch the energy the athletes feed off when you cheer them on. Ok some were snobby and didn't care or acknowledge you were cheering them on which is total BS. Maybe they were just in there own box and couldn't come out to say thank you to all the cheering fans.
We got to the Event pretty early and got to see the Pros start on their bikes. What an amazing thing to watch. Its amazing that they too mess up at mounting their bikes!! See we aren't perfect! Our tri club set up an amazing tent right out of transition so we got to watch all the runners go by and come back in. Got some amazing pics of the pros and fast age groupers!! Pics to come!
I guess being a spectator isn't all that bad when you have to be sidelined for a good reason!!! I cannot wait to get back to triathlon racing!! I am still biking and swimming at least 2 days per week, Running 3. So its still there just alot slower than I want to be at this point!
25 weeks and counting!! :)

7.77 Miles at 13 weeks
Call me crazy but this is exactly what I did yesterday. I marked my milestone of getting to the second trimester by running the 7@7 endurance race held at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, NY. Its a challenging Trail run consisting of Trail, Gravel, grass. If I would've known the elevation profile of this race prior, I probably wouldn't have done it!
I was already signed up to do this race prior to me finding out I was pregnant. I was going back and forth in my head if I wanted to do it because the forecast said it was going to be hot, its a trail run, which is definately harder than road running. I woke up Race morning at 6 and debated, then finally made up my mind to do it and took off from the house at 6:30, getting there 5 min before the start of the race. I ate on the way there to the race, nothing big, just enough to settle my stomach, fruit and toast.
we started on the sandy beach, ran around the boat house and into the trails. From then on it was all about keeping my heart rate under control. It was harder than I thought it was going to be. For some strange reason my heart rate was all over the place, even though I was not panting and having a conversation with a girl that I ran most of the way with, only to have her leave me in the last quarter mile! Ha ha! thats ok, we stuck it out together and it was fun to talk with her.
There were some tough climbs, I had to walk them for fear I would slip or my heart rate would soar. Most of this was in a lonely field by the park. It was kind of boring and you really had to keep your mind active. There was nothing to see but fields, Black flies were all around you. Trail running is certainly way different than road running. I would have to say though, this course was well marked. I think there could've been some more water stops and maybe some offering gatorade/gels as it was hot and muggy out. I think there was only a total of 4 or 5 water stops. Thank goodness I brought my own!
I was tired by the end and ready to be done with the race. I had a huge blister starting on my Right heal as I wore my new trail shoes. I thought I had a twig or something caught in my shoe but when I stopped and looked it was actually a nice big blister forming.
My time was slow, I was the back of the packer, but hey I did it! 1:39:something

Paiges Butterfly Run- #3 on Syrathon
Yesterday I finished #3 Syrathon race for that medal I was talking about, Paige's Butterfly Run. Fighting Pediatric Cancer, Funding Hope is the runs mission. You can read all about the run here : paigesbutterflyrun.org.
What I love about this race is it is very family oriented having a 5k, 3K run/walk and a Caterpillar crawl making it easy for you to bring your whole family to this race. Also, I love that the Taste of Syracuse is right after! The Taste of Syracuse is where you can taste test local restaurants, bakeries, etc. Have a drink (not me of course), smoothie, hear a band play. Its pretty neat. Like a little mini fair in downtown Syracuse.
I was involved with my work team this year for the Paige's Butterfly Run. Together our team raised $1800+ dollars going towards researching and funding Pediatric Cancer. There still is time to donate if you want to! Just click the link above! Any amount is appreciated and goes to fund something great.
I am now 12 weeks pregnant and there were no time goals just to finish the race and have fun doing it!!
It was a great day, the rain held off and there were 1531 racers, about half that in walkers and a bunch of kids enjoying themselves for the 40 meter dash!!
My friend and I did the run, then walked the 3K. I still managed a 33:36! I saw at the second mile my heart rate was getting a bit high so I needed to dial it down a notch. But, I still feel good and am going to keep going as long as my body cooperates with me!!
Hope you all are enjoying your training!! Next up Is Runapalooza in Syracuse on June 30th!!! :)

Season Goal- 11 weeks!
While my life and training has taken a 360, new goals had to be made. I am still swimming, biking and running but not like I was before of course. I am only working out 45- 1 hour per day, taking 1 day off a week.
I have made it a goal to accumulate 26.2 miles of running in races this summer so that I can receive my medal!!
Fleet Feet Syracuse, the Syracuse New Times, and Saucony, once again join the Parks Department to bring together established road races, based in the City of Syracuse, into this unique series called Syrathon. Syrathon races showcase Syracuse's terrific Parks system. Whether you are just beginning, or are a seasoned runner, the Series is designed to encourage healthful physical activity year-round, while promoting the sights and sounds of city life!
There are 8 Races in the series and so far I have done 2 of them. Tipp Hill 4 miler and Mountain Goat 10 miler!! 12.2 miles to go!!
I am feeling great at 11 weeks. I dont remember feeling this good in my last pregnancy. Im hardly even showing which makes me even more excited!! Although my pants are getting tighter and my chest is getting bigger, I know it will all be worth it in the end!!!

Surprise!
I have been a little lazy in the posting category lately, or maybe its called life has taken over. I did do the Mountain Goat run a few weeks ago and just stayed at a steady pace coming in around 1:45 for the 10 miles. Trying to keep your heartrate low for 10 hilly miles proved challenging.
The reason I have to keep my heartrate so low is because my honey and I wound up with a big surprise about a month ago! We are having a baby!
I am now 10 weeks and still enjoying swimming, biking and running but in my own way. I had to defer all my races until next summer but I am ok with this now!
So the focus on this blog for the time being is being accountable for working out most days of the week while being pregnant, staying healthy in the eating department when my ice cream cravings aren't there and just having fun while doing it!
Today I still managed 3 miles in the heat at 10 min miles, keeping my heartrate around 140. So nice to see I can still do this!
I have been trying to swim at least 2 days per week, bike 3, run 3 and if not, the precor comes into play when I am not having a good run day. Keeping active during this pregnancy is really important to me as my first one I did nothing!!
My daughter had her first gymnastics meet today. She was too cute! She was so nervous and anxious she forgot to wait until the judges called her name and lost some points for not waiting. All in all she managed all around 10th place which I am so proud of her. She just started a year ago and was moved up to the elite team 2 months ago so this has definately made her see what competition is like!
I hope you all are enjoying this beautiful Sunday Afternoon!! happy Training!

CHANGES
Life is about change. Sometimes it's painful, sometimes it's beautiful, but most of the time, it's both..
Alot of changes are coming up in the life of this triathlete!! But, for now, getting ready to Run the Mountain Goat this weekend! I love this race and have done it for the last 5 years. Its a race that really starts the summer racing here in Central New York.
Im running it with a friend who this will be her first long race at 10 miles!! I will pace her and try to keep her on track for her goal time. She has to finish by 2hours and 20 min and she is nervous she wont do it! With me pushing her she will definately make it!!!
Happy Training!

Getting Caught up
Wow. I haven't posted in 2 Weeks! Its been a crazy couple weeks. Ill highlight the best and worse here:
1. I ran the Tipp Hill Shamrock run 30 sec faster than last year leading me to a 34:21 time for 4.1 miles. Ill take it! I would've liked to see this time drop a little more but hey, little by little I am getting faster.
2. I had a terrible strain after a speed work out and had to get Depo Medrol to the tuckas...yes that f'er hurt! I never acted like a baby so much in my life! I was even sweating with the thought of getting something injected into my butt. But then, I like to do it to my patients...ha ha! So I took it and was fine afterwards but I let my nurse know she hurt me for a few days afterwards!
3. I have been out on my bike a few times outside since this weather has been great in Central New York. We reached a few 80 degree temps in March! Now its rainy and cold again..brrr
4. I am definately enjoying my Masters Swim session at the local YMCA. Most of us are triathletes and love talking about the upcoming season.
5. Yesterday marked the First training run for the infamous Mountain Goat 10 Mile run that is every weekend up until race day which is the 1st weekend in May. I have to say my training run yesterday was faster than my race time last year, so I am very optomistic about this race. I have been really working on my weakness which is the running part. I want to grab that bronze medal for being under 90 min on this race and I think I can pull it off.
6. I have decided if I want to pull #5 off I need to drop a few more pounds to be lighter up the hills. Clean eating is what its all about
7. My daughter got accepted into the elite gymnast level which means competitions, more training for her. She is only 8!! Im so proud of her and her accomplishments! I cannot wait to see where she will take this. Although she wants to do triathlons as well, she is looking forward to her backward handsprings and uneven bars more
8. I have come to find out I must have the tightest hamstrings of any athlete I know. I think thats why my piriformis has been acting up. Now is not the time for my body to fall apart. I did take a few days off of training to rebuild and repair my body. Sometimes you have to do that!
9. I do not really care for the IronMan Perform Powder drink, but I love the premixed fruit punch. What does everyone else use? I used to use hammer, but Im getting sick of the flavor.
10. I have been signing up like a mad lady for races as this triathlon thing is getting huge! All the races are sold out!!! Whaaa!
Hope everyone has been enjoying there training!!! Happy and Safely!

Doing Something Amazing
My former coach is doing just that. I am totally stoked about her interest and passion for Teens living with cancer
On a tweet to Lance Armstrong, She challenged him to a silly 50 meter Kick off. Well that little joke turned into this amazing fundraising event for both Teens Living with Cancer and the Livestrong foundation. Check out her blog at ironmomma.com
When I read Melissa's story on webpage. I had tears flowing. She is such a inspiration to all. Whether your life takes a turn, you keep perservering. From what I read, she was a wonderful person, full of joy, full of determination.
I donated today to this cause. Imagine if we all donated what we could to help these kids go on living despite their disease process.
Thank you Mary, Thank you for bringing this to the forefront. Thank you Lance for accepting my coaches challenge. May she win your bike in the end!!

Week Review Feb 27-March 4, 2012
Its been a crazy week at work. Major switcha roos happening which has me my panties all in a bunch. Moving offices, moving rooms, just major mental blah this week.
Im happy to report that my training has been ok this week. I have been pretty consistent which is one of my goals this year. Although this hasn't been a porblem. Only on Wednesdays after working until 9 at work to get up and workout!
Nutrition..eh, still trying there. I swear ever since my Ironman I have been really taking a back burner with this and it is time I straighten up and eat the way I used to. I am definately going to get on that starting this week. I put an myfitnesspal on my phone. I am documenting everything that goes into this mouth! I like the program. It actually breaks it down to micro and macronutrients too! I also get my weight on there and have a goal in mind for that. We will see if I can get down to that weight before race season really ramps up.
I signed up for our popular local Shamrock run 4 miler being held this coming weekend. Im all ready for it. Ill post pics of the outfit that I will be running in soon. Hopefully Ill fly by with my new hair!!!
I also have been really taking care of my foot the last week so my mileage isn't where I wanted it to be. I also have a nagging hammy issue...Really?!!! I need to see a sports PT.
Here are the totals:
Swim- 4700 yds- 1:50:00
Bike- 4:10:00 - 32.82miles plus trainer rides, spinning rides
Run- 1:45:00 - 11.42 miles
Strength- 1:30:00
Total time: 9:15:00
Happy Training!! So glad I am not training for a full this year!! WOOT!

Lake Effect Half Marathon Report
After such a mild winter, I could hardly believe the weather forecast for this race today. When I signed up a few weeks back I thought., This is going to be great! No snow all winter, no wind, no cold, Its going to be the be winter half marathon ever!
Well this is what I woke up to this morning....
A wind and snow advisory!! yay!! Great conditions, right?!
I did my pre race ritual meal...1/2 bagel, applesauce, banana, protein shake 3 hours before
Sipping on HEED throughout
1.5 hours before Half power bar
20 min before a gel with water.
As I was driving to the race, I thought darn, I should've brought my sunglasses to block some of this snow! All I had was my Jackie O sunglasses, and yes, I used them!!! ha ha!
I knew the wind was going to be cold so I dressed in layers. Polyester base, nike thermal top with a nike wnd breaker over this, My Thicker running pants, My compression socks, shoes, 2 pairs of gloves, Balaclava and Hat. I was prepared!
The race took off on Time. My plan was to keep a 9- 9:15 pace for as long as I could. This is what I was doing in training. I would see how it went.
Every 1.5 miles there was an aid station with a lot of support with water, and electrolyte drinks. I planned on taking a shot of my gel and water at every aid station. This is what I did...worked out perfectly.
I settled into a pace I could handle and was loving it despite the wind and snow in my face for the first 3 miles, on the way back it got a bit easier with a little of a tail wind.
I was at 6.55 miles in a hour. I was happy with this and was thinking I could make my time goal if I just stick with this pacing. Onto lap 2 of the run!
Then it hit me...the wall of wind and icy snow pelting my face, stinging it, making my lips feel like I had an anaphylactic reaction going on!! I mustered up all my energy to keep moving forward and not give up. I tried making my balaclava go up farther on my face but that was no use as it was soaking wet with thick snow. I tried putting my Jackie O's back on as I took them off to see...that just made me feel like I was drunk, and swerving because there was so much wetness and snow on them I was zig zagging while running.
I rounded the last bend and had about 3.5 miles to go. I felt good, I was running pretty well, then all of the sudden I got a sharp pain in my Left foot. I tried to run differently to make it go away, Tried loosening up as I know my tension was building. I tried everything I could and then my calf started acting up. What the heck! I was hitting my goal time, then I faded. I had to stop a few times to let my foot pain subside. The pain was on my left side, bottom of foot, laterally...Don't make me think that I have a stress fracture because that is not an option right now.
I tried my best to keep my pace but knew I was falling short of it when a dozen runners started passing me.
Ah, well get to that finish line and get your damn medal, I thought....Then my song came on..Eminem,...Collapse..great!!! followed by Im not afraid...Ill finish this thing even if my face, feet, and fingers fall off!!!
I saw the finish line in front of me! yes, Im there...oh no Im not!! One more little loop to tear you down! Around the loop and wind of about 30 mph in your face like a wall...I could hardly even run! The last half was brutal!!
I crossed the finish line in 2:12:50. for 13.25 miles according to my Garmin... Ill take it!! This is a 8 min PR for me despite the weather and my foot...grrrr...
I got my medal! My doggie loves it too!!
Thanks to everyone who supports my craziness!! My honey, my daughter, my family, my friends and coaches!!
Happy Training!

Weekend thoughts
These past few weeks have been nothing but crazy. I haven't posted in a while because mainly there is nothing special going on right now.
I have been doing all that I need to do training wise but have felt the need to push it further. I know consistency and repetition get you somewhere in triathlon but cant it be switched up once in a while?? I get board with the same workouts day in and day out.
So because of this I joined a running group through the local YMCA where I can have some coached workouts with one of the best runners in the area. For FREE if you are a Y member. SO for the past 5 weeks I have been working with a running coach, and a Triathlon coach...funny huh? I am not going to lie. Its freaking hard work. I want to be faster, then I need to put the time on the feet, do my tempos, hill repeats, speed work.
For the past few weeks, I have noticed a decrease in my times. I have been feeling more confident in my running. Today was a different story. I felt sluggish starting, all the way to the finish of my run. I dont know if it was a combination of nutrition, the lower leg work I did, the ice that was so slippery, lack of rest. Who knows?! All I know is that I pushed through the 10 plus miles and felt accomplished at the end. I felt that even though I felt crappy, what didn't kill me made me stronger. It was a tough run for me and Ill put it in the bank as mileage on my feet.
One thing I do know is that my feet were happy with me today.
I have been battling some foot issues to my right foot. Feels fine with running but then I notice that my calf starts bothering me with my long runs. So, I decided to divorce my lovey Saucony and choose Brooks one more time. I love them! They are a little but more of a stability shoe than Im used to but they were much better on the feet. No foot issues, no calf issues!! PLUS! The ride is awesome, the tox box is wide, and I love the color. Granted they are the mens version because I liked the color better. Womens shoes are too girly for me! I like bold colors when running! The bolder the better. I did notice though that my foot was heel striking a bit more in these shoes. Definately something I need to look into more, and pay attention to when running in these shoes.
I have a 1/2 marathon to mentally prepare for next weekend. This next week will be me envisioning a good race with the proper nutrition, hydration and everything in between going into it. I have goals I would like to meet. I have to envision those goals. I feel like my longer mileage is just not where I want it to be right now. But I am still going to move forward and see how I do with this race.
Happy training~

TGIF!
Its Friday morning and I have had a wicked sore throat for the last 2 days. This is what stinks about being a medical provider. You get sick at least once a year because this is the time of the year you see so many viruses. I have been a Gargling, honey cough drop, Warm liquid drinking fool.
Anyways in training I have been doing great. I have been being consistent in training which is a plus for me. The weather here has certainly helped as it has been 30-40s here all week. This is not typical for NY in the middle of winter. But, The cold air is coming in for the weekend!! BRRR! It will be in the teens.
Nutrition is ok during workout windows but then it gets thrown out the window at other times. I was reading an article last night that stuck with me in the new Triathlete magazine that popped up in my mailbox yesterday afternoon. It basically said if your nutrition sucks, how are you going to make any gains in taking out your competition? Hmmm...ok. Back to behaving myself. I mean seriously getting back to my core diet. I have been loving the Wegmans Ultimate Chocolate cake a little too much lately!! UGH!
I am preparing for a half marathon next weekend. I cannot believe it has come up so fast! I have put in my mind that I would like this to be under 2 hours. If it isn't, I will be ok as this is not my "A" race. But it is a goal of mine to accomplish. I have been hovering right around 9 min miles for my longer runs so I think I may be able to accomplish this is I pace myself correctly.
This weekend is full of working, training and having a little fun in between. Happy Friday!!

January 23, 2012-January 29, 2012 in review
The weather has been fairly calm here in Central New York. We have had a record for little snowfall in January this year! Last week was a great week. All the training was done, nutrition was a little better (except for that piece of chocolate cake, oh wait that cookie too) Hey it happens!
I have been swimming fairly well these past couple weeks and even in Masters swim I feel like I have some left in the tank afterwards. It helps when you have proper nutrition prior to going into your workouts!
Cycling, well lets just say Im trying to find comfort on my saddle again on the trainer. Very disappointing as I've tried all the saddles I have in my possession which is about a dozen!!!
Running...Im continuing to improve although Im not happy with my times still. I want to break that 25 min mark in a 5K. Im almost there. Im down under 9 min miles which was a goal at the end of my season a few months ago, now its getting down to 8:15-8:30s. Its all a process I keep telling myself. It takes time and consistent effort to get there. Its not going to happen overnight. Little by little I see those seconds falling off my times though.
Im onto my next adventure which is the Lake Effect Half Marathon. All proceeds go to help the Run 4 Life Campaign. The mission of Run 4 Life it to set up healthy events for Cayuga County and the surrounding areas. I think it is sad that our youth are not expected or encouraged to be healthy and run. I told my ex that our 8 year old daughter ran 3 miles and I swear he was calling this child abuse. What?! Even when she rode her bike 3 miles while I ran he was hysterical about it! This is crazy! My daughter enjoys it! If she didn't she is also in Gymnastics, dance and swimming. She is very active and I plan to keep it that way. I even got a letter from Caitlins gym teacher for kids being active at least 6 days per week for 30min. This is a recommendation. Could you imagine if every child got a little more exercise than they do? We are too caught up in the Iphones, Computers, TV's that these children are not getting the proper exercise they need. My daughter is not allowed on the computer but 1 day a week supervised by me, not allowed to have a cell phone, and TV time is now limited as well. I don't think this is cruel but helping her to learn to be active, using her imagination at home as well as in the community.
This is why this race is a great race! It is sold out in its Inaugural Debut! 500 runners will take to the Snowy trails of Onondaga Lake Parkway in Liverpool, NY on February 25, 2012 for 13.1 miles!! Im getting that Long sleeve shirt...It Snowed, I ran, I conquered...13.1!!! Woot!
Phew! I got on a tangent there! But you get the picture Im sure.
Last week in Numbers:
Swim: 4300 yrds- 1.75 hours
Bike: 3 hours - On trainer
Run- 23.93 miles- 3.69 hours
Strength- 1.5 hours
Total Time: 9:56:31
Goals for this week: Be consistent, Have great hydration and nutrition..be a good role model to my little one! :)
Helping to fight child obesity, bringing child friendly events to the area and help local charities through these events. Check it out at Therun4life.org

Chilly Chili 5K Review
The Chilly Chili 5K became part of Cazenovia's winter Festival, which is held every year in January since 2005. This is a fundraiser for the Cazenovia children's house which offers full time day care, after School care and Preschool Programming for the Cazenovia area.
Today I had Masters swimming in the morning. Which was mostly all kicking sets!! Oh boy! I couldn't believe on the day I wanted to do well in a race it was all kicking! Well I sucked it up and still did the swim workout because Im a triathlete right?!
After Masters Swim, all of the coaches and my teamates got together at my coaches beautifulmansion house for a get together filled with yummy food.
We all piled in our cars and went out to Caz to get our run on. I was feeling antsy at the race start. I did my 15 min warm up including pick-ups as coach KRoe instructed, took a Mocha gel (bad Idea, BLECK) and settled in towards the beginning of the crowd. I went out slower and wanted to build into my 5K pace, which btw, I still have no idea what that is! I figured I would base it off my PR time.
I started off steady with some of my teamates, just enjoying all the energy around me. turned the corner and there was the *itch of a hill that seemed to go on forever. Half way up I heard a guy call out 9:05. Well hey, that was the first mile. A little slower than I wanted but I made it up that darn hill feeling good.
Next was a little elevation then some down hill which I tried to pick the pace up a little but everytime I tried to pass it didn't seem possible! I stayed back a bit, got up the next steep quick hill, Looked at my watch and we were almost 2 miles in at 17:50.
At this point it is pretty much downhill so I kicked it up a bit and let my feet land a little softer, quicker, like the runner I am (Cough, choke, sputter). Made the next mile in 8:13. Yes!!! Negative splitting here!
The last .17 was a little steeper then flat to the finish. I felt like I wanted to throw up. Note to self, no Banana bread prior to the run next time, and definately not a MOCHA powerbar gel! ewww..
I saw the time and was a little disappointed this wasnt under 27min which I was hoping for.
I crossed the line 27:20
29/102 AG 30-34
147/655 Females
404/1158 total participants
We then went over to the Chili bake off and sampled some Chili from some nice restaraunts in the area. This was way better last year and it was a little disappointing this year. At least 3-4 of the stands had no more chili! How can I vote without these to taste too?! Oh well.
All in all, it was a fair race, the weather was nice, about 40F compared to Neg numbers last year!
Onto the next race, Lake Effect Half Marathon!!

1st week back at it.
First week back at a normal training schedule again. Lets just say I have been doing what ever I have wanted to do for the last 2 months. Its great that now I Can have a coach looking at my schedule and fitting my needs of being a crazy triathlete into the mix of it all.
This week I managed to get all my training in and then some.
Some highlights of this week:
- I actually did Hill Repeats, and I survived!!
- I have gotten a little smoother and faster in the water, balancing on my left side needs improvement
-I hate one legged drills on the trainer- feel the freaking burn!
- snow running 7 miles in about 3 inches of snow= burning quads and hammies
I'm getting ready to crush my 5K time at the Chilly Chili 5K in Cazenovia, NY next weekend!!
Swim-5700 yds- 2.33 hours
Bike- 3.5 hours
Run-19.81 miles- 3.33 hours
Strength- 30 min
Total time- 9 hours 40 min
Happy Training!!!

2012 Plans and Goals
I have to admit, this year was hard for me to choose my race plans and goals for this year. I have been pretty much strumming along with the "Ill do what I want" attitude. But I know that wont get me very far since that has included my sinful indulgences of M+M's and Ice cream.
I finally contacted Coach KRoe to get started. I will be at her hands for the 2012 race season. I hope she will be able to stand all my quirks and craziness when it comes to training! We met in the summer to decide about coaching and it seemed like a great fit. She is very easy to talk to and understanding.
I wrote out my race plans, dotted my A. B, and C races and sent her the, I do this on Wed, I do masters swim on this day...yada. Thank god I can still proceed with all my interesting combinations! Ha ha!
I got my first coached week starting tomorrow! Happy Martin Luther King day! Here you go! 45min on the trainer, 45 min in the pool!! YAY!
My race plan for this season includes, running a sub 2:00 standing 1/2 Marathon only. Maybe a sub 2:15 in 1/2 IM? We will see how this goes. I have already shaved 15sec per mile off my long runs which is pretty impressive to me! I am so much better with short distances with this. The longer it is, the harder I struggle. Something to work on this year! Another goal is to be a stronger hill climber, whether on the bike or running. This is another weakness. Not that I cannot get up them but I slow significantly. I will be following one of my friends who is training for the Triple T, up alot of the bigger grade hills here in Central NY!
My goals are to do a few 70.3's, 1/2 marathon, marathon, a few duathlons and some smaller races.
I also recently was made aware of my qualification for AG nationals so I think I will plan on going there as well. Now to find a hotel in Vermont!
Happy Training to all!

Mother Natures Snow
Mother Nature finally told us we had enough of this nice weather and decided to slam the snow our way. As I was driving home from work last night I was actually afraid to drive. I went on a highway, couldn't see, ended up using the whole road. Good thing there wasn't any cars around me at the time!
Today its just a blanket of snow. I love how the sun reflex off the snow giving the glistening appearance. Its so perfectly beautiful.
Anyways, its been one of those days to cozy up in the warmth at home. I am not doing that however, I am going to get up on this bike in a minute and cycle!
Heres to winter snow finally coming, and now you can pass on by and keep going!! ;)

Resolution Run 2012
There is such a great feeling when you can pass up the booze and run about 5 miles on New Years Day! Starting out the New Year with friends I've made in the last few months was just what I needed!
Every year for the past 3 years I have done this fun run and I think it will be on my calendar for years to come. This race is a fun race. No timing, unknown mileage, weird raffles. Just a great group of people getting together for the same purpose. Not to mention free Chili, Ziti, bread with Garlic butter, beer and Coffee!!!
What else could anyone ask for?!
The race starts at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Syracuse and we run the streets surrounding this area. The mileage is unknown until run day but is usually between a 5K-10K. Last year it was 4.1 miles, this year 4.7 miles.
My daughter wanted to run it with me and I forewarned her it wasn't going to be easy as there are a few steep hills at the beginning of the race and she has at max ran only 3miles at a time. But, she begged and begged so I agreed. It wasn't a race, no timing, I didnt care where I placed. My friend, M, who is also my nurse, was coerced into doing the race as well with her daughter who is my daughters age.
We started the race at 10:08AM. Weird time I know but its always like that. We started out around a 9:30pace. I was impressed at how the girls were doing. Yes, the next mile slowed and we were run walking the rest.
I was running a little faster after this and because I was wearing Bright Pink socks with bright yellow shoes, the News 10now camera guy decided to run behind me with the camera on my running form! I started picking up the pace to see if he could run it. But, then he stopped..Hmmm that reminds me I need to look at the news feed.
About mile 2.5miles was a Champagne stop, toasted to a New Year with Daughter having a glass of water of course.
With a few more getting to the next lamp post, the next stop sign, around the corner games with the little ones, we are proud to say they finished almost 5 miles in 1:08!
Heres to a New Year with many more races to come!
